Matt Tovey is literally THE BEST. Nearly a year ago I called him on a whim seeing he was the listing agent on a home I was interested in. Of course, the house was sold extremely quickly but Matt stated he’d remember me if something popped up he thought I’d like he’d call me. I thought to myself “yeah, this man gets so many calls a day he’ll never remember”. Matt called me a month later and followed through on his word. Although that property didn’t work out he was able to find my dream home by working with me patiently over the last 10 months. He fully understood my “needs” for a house-like location, bedroom minimum, and bonus points for a parking spot with the ability to charge my golf cart. He got to the point and didn’t pull me to every open house (thank goodness) and completely respected my price point. When I did want to view a property I was able to view it before it officially went on the market. He was even going out of the country as I was putting in my offer and he was still always accessible on his phone (even called me while going through customs), set alarms to accommodate my time zone, and was just totally there for me. He went out of his way to make sure I got my keys before I left for three weeks, offering to help with moving boxes (or find someone who was available) if I needed help. My wife and I met Matt Tovey at an open house several years ago. We had a great conversation and exchanged email addresses. Over the years, Matt has sent us properties he thought we might like and we would review them, only to be not being quite ready to buy. He was very patient with us and clearly does this for the process in mind of building the relationship over time. Finally, this June, we found a few properties that we were interested in purchasing. We were on a tight schedule, as we were flying in from Austin, TX to view these properties. We saw all three properties the afternoon we arrived and really liked one of them, a beautiful, rebuilt bungalow in North Park. He guided us through the process of putting in a bid. We did that and flew home, keeping our fingers crossed. (There was another bid on the property.) We were pleased to find our bid was accepted. Besides the numbers, he's the definition of a true professional. Even during times of high stress and negotiation, he stayed cool, calm, and collected. He has a real passion for helping people purchase their home. He is a excellent communicator and responded to my many questions at a moments notice. He has extensive knowledge of the San Diego real estate market and it showed. Most of all he was as real as it gets. I cannot recommend Matt Tovey enough for all your Real Estate needs! Matt actually sold the unit next to us. While the units are gorgeous, the outside of the building was falling apart. After an offer was accepted, Matt still went out of his way for his clients to reach to the HOA to see about the outside. We let him know we had plans but couldn’t find the vendors. Matt immediately offered to help and with in days we had quotes for landscaping, paint, new fences and stucco repair from multiple trusted vendors that Matt knew. He not only helped us get it all scheduled but has also helped oversee much of the work. Matt was a true advisor to us all, constantly taking our calls to help and guide us through the process. For years we have felt so overwhelmed by all the work needed and Matt helped us get it done in less than a month. What’s crazy about all this was that Matt had already sold the unit. Couldn’t ask for a better person than Matt Tovey with whom to work when selling a residential property. Matt has now helped sell two of the four condos in our four-unit Pacific Beach complex. First owner referred Matt to us with high praise; we can give a similar “two thumbs up” endorsement. From initial contact to final post-sale handshake, Matt partnered with us in a professional and personable manner to ensure a smooth, trouble-free sale. Matt helped us by “running the numbers” to show us similar property values and the effect and impact of various renovation options to improve the marketability of the property. Matt referred us to a remarkable general contractor who achieved our goal of creating a “wow factor” that essentially sold the property the minute potential buyers walked in the front door. Matt visited the property daily during the renovation process and helped make key decisions as to color, texture, layout, appliances, and other details. From simple-to-complex, Matt helped us with every decision during the renovation process. As an example, simple but significant: Matt was not satisfied with the appearance of the light bulbs that came with a pendant light fixture over an island in the kitchen; he made a trip to a local hardware store and brought back “designer” light bulbs that completely changed the initial impression when entering the room …. and were commented on by every potential buyer and realtor who visited while the condo was on the market. Little things can have outsized impact. From beginning-to-end, we could have given the keys to the condo to Matt and with minimal-to-no contact between us and him, our objective of turning over a zero-defect property to the new owners while receiving a fair market sales value could have been achieved. Matt Tovey with Team Cairncross is flat out great at his job. I have used other real estate agents in the past and they were good, but his quality of service blew them out of the water. Throughout the process he expertly dealt with my tenants, a long escrow, and an atypical negotiation on top of it all. He also helped set a record sale price for my unit across the entire 20-unit complex! I want to emphasize a few attributes that differentiated Matt for me. First, he is a hard worker and exceptionally motivated – any time day or night, he dropped everything to deal with anything that came up, and no matter what, had a positive attitude while doing it (even negotiating with the buyer Saturday and Sunday night). Despite his drive, he somehow also manages a consistent easy-going attitude, which not only makes him a pleasure to work to, but also ensures that tenants, buyers/sellers, and service providers all go out of their way to help him (which helped me). The last thing I’ll emphasize is how well connected he’s connected in San Diego – agents, cleaners, handymen, or anyone else you can imagine; he got me the best price available and the intel we needed. Matt is a great choice to buy or sell your home and I can’t express how grateful I am that I got to work with him!

5 STARS. Matt is HANDS DOWN the BEST AGENT I have ever worked with! When it came time to sell our beloved beach condo, I already knew that Team Cairncross was the most reputable agency in Pacific Beach. But I didn’t realize just how valuable Matt, specifically, would be as our realtor. From the start, he was full of suggestions on how to improve our unit in order to receive top dollar. Things like converting our upstairs single vanity to a double, and changing the bathtub to a master shower. During his first walk-through, he discovered extra storage space underneath the staircase (storage is key at the beach!) and even referred us to a contractor who was able to do minor demo that opened up our kitchen and extended our bar seating. When our cabinet guy miscalculated part of our layout and tried to charge us to fix his error, Matt tactfully intervened and saved us from having to pay anything. He also went above and beyond to help us prepare for our open house, even clocking extra hours assembling some last-minute furniture and fixtures so that the place looked its very best. Matt spared no expense when hiring THE. BEST. professional photographer who made our condo look like a luxury home. By the time our open house rolled around, he had about a dozen agents fighting to get through the door, with interested buyers in mind.
